Terre di Canossa Rally 2025: Day 1

May 9, 2025: The fifteenth edition of the Terre di Canossa Rally is officially underway, promising a truly unique journey: 600 kilometers through breathtaking coastal landscapes, pristine mountain passes, lush green hills and timeless historic villages. From the very first day, the heart of Tuscany revealed itself to the participants as a veritable treasure trove of wonders.

Following Thursday evening’s elegant opening ceremony at the Yacht Club of Punta Ala—famous as the launch site of the first Luna Rossa—the official start took place at the Marina di Punta Ala. Nearly sixty cars lined up at the starting grid, showcasing iconic marques such as Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia. Among them, rare gems like AC ACE, Osca, Triumph, and MG stood out, including exceptional pre-war models such as the Delahaye 135 S and the Aston Martin Le Mans. The lineup spans an impressive automotive legacy, covering nearly a century from 1931 to 2020.

The day’s route featured a series of captivating stops: a parade in Massa Marittima, a scenic pause in Volterra, lunch in Monteriggioni, parades in Buonconvento and San Quirico d’Orcia, a break at Monte Amiata, and the stage finish in Castiglione della Pescaia.

In the first regularity challenge—focused on locating the highest number of road signs—the Swiss duo Rudolf and Heidi Hug claimed victory behind the wheel of a stunning 1958 Jaguar XK 150 3.4 DHC.

After the first ten timed trials, here are the provisional standings for Stage 1:

  • Historic Cars: Leading the category are Ubaldo Bordi and Daniela Apetrea of Scuderia Castellotti, driving a 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint.
  • Modern Cars: First place goes to Marco Serventi and Sara Bercelli in a 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista.
  • Average Speed Trials: At the top are German driver Dr. Markus Himmels and Dutch co-driver Ilze Helmink in a 1959 AC Ace Bristol.

Anticipation is high for Day 2, which includes two more skill-based trials: one at Grosseto Airport—home of the 4th Fighter Wing—and another in the picturesque historic center of Castiglione della Pescaia.

The route will traverse iconic locations such as Manciano, Orbetello, and Porto Santo Stefano—perfect backdrops for an event that masterfully blends a passion for classic motoring with refined, high-level experiences.
